Income sources & accountability
We are an independent, international organisation that operates on the basis of strict rules that guarantee a sound financial management of the resources entrusted to us by the tens of thousands of our supporters. The Anti-Fraud and Corruption Policy, as well as our Procurement Policy are rigorously applied in all countries where we work.
In the world as well as in Greece, we run a secure complaints’ system which is meant to ensure that our work is carried out with honesty and integrity and that we are in conformity with our organisation’s policies and values.
We operate with transparency and, for this reason, we have chosen to be audited by an independent chartered accountant company, on a yearly basis. At the same time, specially trained teams of ActionAid International carry out regular audits of our finances in all countries where we work, and of course, in Greece.
Every year, we publish our financial statements and our annual report, while we also keep our supporters informed about our projects and actions. Our Centres in Athens, Thessaloniki and Northern Evia are open to the public and our supporters can visit the countries where we are present in order to see our work from up close.
To put it simply, we ensure in every possible way the sound management of our supporters’ donations, given that none of the things we achieve would ever be possible without people like you, that choose to support us and help our world become a fairer place for all.
From ActionAid sponsors to runners who join our team in sports events and from generous companies to entities that believe in our work, there are many people we wish to thank from the bottom of our heart for their contribution.
The financial statements have been drawn up in accordance with the Greek accounting standards. The financial statements and the chartered accountant’s audit report are available upon request.

1. How is ActionAid financed?
Our main source of income is the Child Sponsorship Programme, supported by tens of thousands of people in Greece and Cyprus. Further, our supporters support us financially through the Friend of ActionAid Programme and through other donation channels, while they also make generous donations, responding to our emergency appeals for the provision of assistance in extraordinary circumstances for help.
Moreover, there are various companies, bodies and institutions that support our actions in Greece and the world with donations. Finally, some of our programmes are funded by the EU.
2. How do I know that the money is put to good use?
Every year, our financial statements are approved by ActionAid International auditors, while we are also audited by independent chartered accountants. Similar audits are conducted in all countries where we work.
Moreover, our annual report is shared with all our supporters. It includes the outcomes of our actions in Greece and the world, the sources of our income and allocation of our resources. You can access this information on our website.
As transparency is a non-negotiable value for us, feel free to contact us any time by calling on 212 000 6300 and asking for further information.
3. What do you do to ensure protection against fraud?
Within ActionAid, in all countries where we work, we operate with transparency and we account for the way we invest our resources, in order to make our world a fairer place. We apply strict rules in our procurement process and we take measures to protect ourselves against corruption and fraud, while we also provide a safe complaints system to ensure proper operation on all levels. We conduct systematic audits and offer training to our staff, in order to prevent all attempts of fraud or corruption.
Furthermore, in accordance with the strict rules we apply, in case of fraud or corruption, the ActionAid staff, partners and volunteers who are proven to have been involved in an act or an attempt of corruption or fraud may be liable to disciplinary measures, dismissal or termination of contract, and payment of any damages to ActionAid and to report to the national authorities and to the initiation of criminal proceedings against them.
4. How do you protect yourselves against fraudsters using your name?
In the past, there have been complaints about persons pretending to work for ActionAid and asking for donations from people in the street or door-to-door. At present, we don’t have any active group engaging in direct dialogue with the public anywhere in Greece. In case someone asks you for a donation to ActionAid, whether out in the street or knocking at your door, please let us know and report the incident to the police, filing a complaint for fraud. Your contribution is crucial in the protection of us all against fraudsters, corruption and scandals.
